Loneliest dogs at Battersea have their say - thanks to children

Primary school children are helping to give some of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s loneliest dogs a voice.
Battersea’s four loneliest residents have been constantly overlooked, so the world-famous shelter has enlisted some young helpers to get them noticed.
Children, aged six to eight, have put themselves in these dogs’ paws and written ‘when they grow up’ pictures and letters from the dogs’ perspectives.
Meet the Battersea dogs, dreaming of a grown-up life beyond kennel walls…

Is the Skye the limit for this RSPCA rescue dog?

One year old Staffordshire bull terrier cross, Skye, is hoping to find love this Valentine’s Day. She’s currently in the care of the RSPCA’s Leybourne Animal Centre in Kent, and staff are hoping to fine the paw-fect match for her.

Skye was found abandoned in Dover, and has since spent 188 days in kennels at the charity. She is a cuddly girl who enjoys going for walks – but she wants someone to share those walks with her.

“Skye is such a sweetheart and has the most beautiful brown eyes,” says Mel Dolling, an animal care assistant at RSPCA Leybourne.

Hermaphrodite Staffie seeks special home

We’ve covered quite a few unusual dogs in need of a forever home on DogCast Radio, but I can’t recall one quite like Jodie before. Jodie is an older Staffordshire bull terrier, and as such is not an uncommon resident of a rescue shelter. But Jodie is extremely unusual in one respect – she is a hermaphrodite. This means that she has the reproductive organs of both sexes.

The RSPCA took Jodie in when her previous owner abandoned her, and they are now seeking a special home for her. The search is proving to be a challenge.

Battersea’s Staffies show their winning smiles in hopes of securing a new home

Staffordshire Bull Terriers at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home are practicing their best smiles in hopes of finding a new and loving home. Roxy and Kye are posed for the cameras ahead of International Day of Happiness on Sunday 20 March.

Four-year-old Kye was given up to Battersea due to his owner’s allergies and is hoping that his beaming smile will win over a new owner whilst beautiful Roxy is a wonderful example of her breed. Roxy absolutely adores people and can be often be seen sitting in her kennel with the widest grin in hopes of enticing someone for a tummy scratch.

Battersea's first unwanted dog of 2015

The New Year was just hours old when six year old Wrinkles caught his first glimpse of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home - his new home at least for the next few weeks or months. Wrinkles was amongst 50 dogs and 48 cats that arrived at Battersea’s South London site between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier became the charity's very first unwanted dog of 2015, when he was brought to Battersea’s London rescue centre after his owner’s circumstances changed and they were no longer able to keep him.
