Help! My Dog Doesn't Travel Well In The Car

It's not just, oh my dog's sick in the car, but it's my dog's vocal in the car, or won't settle down, or doesn't want to get in the car. There are so many issues involved around car travel.
 - Toni Shelbourn

Toni Shelbourne and Karen Bush have done it again - they've written a book focusing on one subject which will make the lives of dogs and owners happier and healthier. This latest addition to their Help! series is called Help! My Dog Doesn't Travel Well In The Car: Solving Motion Sickness And Other Traveling Issues. There's more to car issues than just being sick, and Toni and writing partner Karen Bush have tackled it all, serving their advice up in an extremely accessible style. So whether your dog doesn't settle in the car, or makes a noise in the car - or maybe doesn't even want to get in the car, Toni has the advice you need.

Toni has worked with domesticated and wild canids since 1989. As well as a long career with Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, she is a Tellington TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner, and was a Senior Wolf Handler and Education Officer for the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.

Canine surgery

Your veterinarian is in the best possible position to know what's going on with your dog.
 - Deidre Chiaramonte

Being told your dog need to have surgery is worrying, but there are steps you can take to make life easier for both you and your dog. Deidre Chiaramonte is an experienced veterinarian, with an interest in canine rehabilitation, and she has the advice you need to get through a diagnosis that indicates surgery may be an option for your dog. The first step according to Deidre is to listen to your vet, because they can advise you best about your dog's specific condition, treatment and recovery.

If you have been told you dog will need an operation, Deidre suggests that you remain calm, take in everything your vet is saying, ask lots of questions - and feel free to ask for a second opinion if you want. There's one very straightforward thing you can do for your dog to make his experience of surgery and recovery better - but it's one most of us find difficult! Find out from Deidre what that step is. To find out more about Deidre, visit the Assisi Animal Health website. She is certified in rehabilitation and acupuncture, and is particularly interested in the fields of canine rehabilitation, obesity and geriatrics.
