Cheer up Blue Monday with these gorgeous dogs and cats

Today, 15 January, is Blue Monday – also known as the most depressing day of the year. To help brighten up your spirits, here are some of the homeless residents from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home who could make a real positive difference to your life.

Rob Young, Battersea’s London Centre Manager said: “Owning a pet can have many rewarding health benefits. They offer unconditional love and can help ease the feeling of loneliness. They really do become a loving best friend and a part of the family. Here at Battersea, we’ve got lots of dogs and cats who will put a smile on anyone’s face this Blue Monday.”

Bolt, three years old, Lurcher (pictured above)
Three year old Bolt has been at Battersea since early October, after his owners could no longer care for him. True to his name, Bolt can run as fast as lightning and is looking for a good-sized garden to play in. This playful chap enjoys being the centre of attention and would prefer to live alone.

Captain Pugwash, three years old, Domestic Short-hair
Ahoy there! Meet Captain Pugwash, an adorable three year old who has sadly found himself marooned at Battersea since September. The affectionate young fellow is searching for new shipmates with an enclosed garden to explore.

Fifi, nine years old, Domestic Short-hair
Beautiful Fifi arrived at Battersea after her owner could no longer care for her. The sweet, affectionate girl is looking for a new companion to spend the evening nights snuggling up to. The nine year old is looking for a friendly home with a garden to explore.

Polly, two years old, Greyhound
Poor Polly is finding it hard to keep smiling after being at Battersea for over 67 days through no fault of her own. The two year old sensitive girl is looking for a friendly home away from the inner-city where she can spend her days relaxing.

Ruby, five years old, Mongrel
Five year old Ruby arrived at Battersea in December after her owner could no longer care for her. The sensitive soul is looking for a loving family to help build up her confidence around other dogs. The Mongrel is an avid tennis fan and will need a garden to practice her skills in.
