In this show you can hear Cathy and Joe Connolly talk about the book they wrote together, If I Should Die Before My Dog. This book is a must for all dog owners, as it's a book which asks the owner countless questions about their dog, so the book becomes a record of the dog which is invaluable if the dog has to be rehomed or cared for temporarily by someone other than the owner. This is much more than emergency phone numbers, or what medication the dog is taking - this
book cuts to the heart of the subject, asking the owner to record how
their dog prefers to be fussed, the toys they like best, their character and much more. As Cathy points out in this interview, most of us will outlive our dogs, and in that case the book becomes a wonderful memento of a well-loved dog.

Cathy and Joe make some insightful observations during this interview, and you can hear them talk about the very personal motivation that lead them to become authors. You can find out more about them and their book at their Facebookand Twitter pages.

First aid kit for dogs

The big thing with a first aid kit is that not everything
in it has to be specific; you've got to be able to think outside the
box and think, "What can I use all these different things for?"

Knowing canine first aid could save your dog's life, and Kerry Rhodes
has the advice you need about what items should be in your first aid
kit in the car, and what  multi-purpose item should be in your
pocket on dog walks. We first heard from Kerry in Episode
139
, where she gave authoritative and practical first aid advice, she's back with the same no nonsense approach this time, and you can hear her tips that will help you deal with an emergency should it arise.

Kerry has written a book - Rhodes to recovery...doggy style! -  containing her essential first aid knowledge, but it's not your average first aid manual as it's written from the point of view of her Rhodesian Ridgeback Axl, and made memorable by the inclusion of real life experiences and anecdotes. You can find out more about Kerry and the book at her Rhodes to Safety website, and in this show you can hear Julie read an extract from the book.
