Julie and Wallace the Guide Dog

This episode is a special devoted to the marvelous work that guide dogs do. We all know how our dogs enrich our lives and touch our hearts in so many ways, but to some people their dog is essential.

Julie Rodaway is blind, and she and her guide dog, Wallace, make a great team. We went to meet them both, and we learned a lot about the invaluable service guide dogs provide.

How much do you know about the training process that produces a guide dog? What is a guide dog's life like? Do they get to play, and are they ever off-duty? How easy is it to get a guide dog? Do you know the cost involved in providing the guide dog that gives its owner new independence, freedom and confidence?

Julie shares with us her experience of life with a guide dog, including the funnier side of things. Just how intelligent do some people think these dogs are?

We think you'll agree that this is a cause well worth supporting, and so to help you explore how you can do that here are some useful links:

For a great article about Guide Dog Facts, read this one by Robin Kettle, which includes advice about how to behave around a guide dog, and more importantly what to avoid doing.
